The Woodlark project involved renovation of two historic buildings, the former Cornelius Hotel and the Woodlark Building. The project marries the two buildings together to create the new 151-room boutique hotel, ground floor restaurant, ground floor bar, conference and special event space. In addition to minimizing the design impacts of new code requirements, MCA’s challenges included creating elegant transitions between the interiors of the two buildings (built in 1907 and 1912 respectively). Because the buildings were built independently and at different times, their original floors and ceilings did not align. As architect of record, MCA Architects worked collaboratively with R&A Architecture + Design and Staicoff Design Company to realize the design vision for this project.
