This 162,240 sf comprehensive shop facility was designed to contain all of United’s ground equipment maintenance operations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. At the time of construction, this was the largest Ground Equipment Maintenance building in the world. The building incorporates 67 work bays (e.g., maintenance, paint and wash bays), glass and welding shops, engine re-manufacturing and parts departments, fuel dispatch and bulk fluids rooms, paint booth, storage, administrative offices, locker rooms, lunchroom and kitchen. State-of-the-art technology was provided in all areas, including overhead bridge cranes, parallel lift floor hoists, automatic parts retrieval towers and explosion-proof fueling maintenance bays.
